Lego Chess Set

Michael had a fever and a cough and missed one day of school this week. When the medicine kicks in and the fever is gone, usually the kids act like nothing happened and they are all fine.

I told him that his body still needed to rest, so I wanted him to go to his room and get some sleep...

While I was working in my room, I heard small noises coming from his room.

I immediately knew he was going through his Lego bin and was making something. I wanted him to be in his bed, but hey, he is quiet, I can get some work done... I just let him be.

A while later, he came to me with his creation in his hand and proudly said;

"Mom, look what I made!"

I wanted to tease him a little, so I said “I thought you were supposed to be in bed." with a straight face; but laughing inside. I felt like I was Candice from Phineas and Ferb... and said this out loud "BUSTED!"

His eyes were swimming in the air and had that look on his face like, "Ah... what do I say to get out of this."

I giggled and said "I am just kidding...You did awesome on this (even though there are two rows too many :) ) He gave me a big smile exclaiming, "MOM!" then asked me "Can you put this on your blog?"

I happen to be just like many of you that think my kids are awesome... I wanted to make his wish come true. That is why you are looking at the Lego chess set today. :)

Had to laugh at this post as this is so very similar to what my boys would do when they were young!! They loved legos and I still have all the sets (they are 27 and 29 now!)

That is impressive!! I love this whole post. Reminds me of my own son. With the lego building sneaking. ;-) I love your response. And I'm so impressed with that board! Thank you for sharing.

I love it. I too have a Lego builder and it is so much fun to see what they make. I love that he asked to be one your blog.

It's an awesome use of Lego - custom-made chess board. Just think of the possibilities to vary the colour combinations and the outfits of the pieces.
Absolutely lovely! Hugs for your little one.

That is so awesome! As soon as my boy comes in from working on his ice boat I'll be showing it to him. Since finishing school this morning he spent the morning building with his legos. :-)

Please bear with me as give some unsolicited advice - Enjoy him wanting you put it on the blog. My boy is 14 and is in a phase where he won't let me put his creations on the blog...it's so hard when you are mom and they are your life - and our blogs are meant to reflect our lives.

That is so cool! I'm glad you shared it. I remember I got sick the day after Valentine's day. My mom had given me a chapter book (I was in 2nd grade), and I read the WHOLE thing that day. Kids always need something to do while they are waiting for their bodies to be better. What a cool project that he came up with all on his own!
